Entry #2 Read more

Everyone has their own opinion about reading. You either love it or you hate it. Personally, I am not the biggest fan because I have the hardest time comprehending what I read. In one of my classes, I am required to read The Woman in the Window, by AJ Finn with other students and then do a presentation. This is definitely challenging for me but I do know it will benefit me if I read more.

Recently, I read an article called How to Make Reading a Habit, by Alexander Peterman. There were a few things I took away from this. People should invest some of their time to read and make it into a habit. It is a great thing to do as it can improve our memory. Creating a new habit can be challenging, which is why it is best to start small and work your way up. For example, if you set 5-10 minutes aside to read some time once a day, that's perfectly fine. Eventually, you should incorporate reading into something you do like eat or drink. As well as reading books you enjoy so it will encourage you to want

to read more, which will slowly turn reading into a habit. Other things you can do is bring a book with you when you're out of the house, join a book club, and make a nice reading environment for yourself. These are just a few ways to make reading a habit, but now you have to stay consistent with it. The best way you can maintain a reading habit is by setting reading goals. It will motivate you to achieve your goal and help you remember to read. In addition, find recommendations for books you have enjoyed. You might like books from the same author or in that genre that were similar to the one you previously read. Constructing a list of books to read, logging when and what you read, and visiting bookstores and the library can also help you maintain a reading habit.

To conclude, I think being assigned a book project is helping me step out of my comfort zone. It seems intimidating but I’m up for the challenge. This article most certainly changed my perspective when it comes to reading and I hope to create good reading habits to eventually become a lifelong reader.

  1. Hi Antonytte! I completely agree I also struggle with understanding what I read so I am always going back to reread certain parts. I have noticed though that when I read something I actually enjoy, I lose track of time and can get carried away. I did not know that reading improves memory so I will have to make note of that and try to get into the habit of reading.

  2. Hi Antonytte! I've always struggle with comprehending what I am reading. I have to re-read things all the time especially things that I have to read for school. I am currently reading a book called After Ever Happy by Anna Todd and I can't put it down, which is honestly surprising to me. I haven't been this absorbed into a book since I was about ten. I definitely see how reading motivates you to want to read more, because while reading this current book I started making a list of books that I want to read.

  3. I agree because I want to start reading but I cant find anything that actually entertains me. I have tried reading anything multiple times but after five minutes I just put the book down and never touch it again.
