Entry #4 Books vs The Movie

In one of my previous blogs, I mentioned that I was required to read a book for one of my classes. I was worried I wasn’t going to enjoy it and instead, would cheat my way through it. Five weeks later, I finished the entire book by the time I was supposed to. The book I read was The Woman in the Window and it was better than I thought.

The Woman in the Window is a novel written by AJ Finn. If you’re interested in thriller/suspense books, then this might just be a book for you. It is about a woman named Anna Fox, who lives in New York all alone. She has a hard time going outside so she just stays home drinking wine, watching old films, and her neighbors. Then, a new family moves into the neighborhood, The Russells, right across the street. One night when Anna is looking out the window, she sees something that she should not have and it almost makes her go insane. No one knows what’s really going on and it’s Anna's job to figure out what is and isn’t real.

I will say this book is slow at first, but once you’re at the part of the conflict, that’s when the book gets interesting. After reading the book, I decided to watch the movie on Netflix, since it’s based on the book. One of my classmates said that the movie was not that good and I wanted to find out for myself. In general, there is a saying that the book is better than the movie or vice versa.

In my opinion, the movie was nowhere near as good as the book. The book did a great job building up the story while the movie felt rushed. Also, the movie changed several details that were crucial in the book. One change I was not happy about was how the movie ended. If you want to have a better understanding of what I mean, then you should definitely read the book.

In brief, I really enjoyed reading the book and I recommend that you read it as well. It is very easy to comprehend but the most challenging part will probably be to keep reading it if you’re not a fan of reading. It will keep you busy and you can even watch the movie after the book like I did. This is a book you should put on a list to read; it will leave you in shock!

  1. Hello Antonytte, I agree with you about the difference between book and movie. Personally, I prefer movie because it attracts me the most since I'm not really interested in reading. However, I can see that reading a book also allow us to learn new things and reduce stress. Both book and movie have their own benefit, so we should try these two.

  2. Hi Antonytte! I think it is so sad when the movie does not do the book justice. There is a book called "All the Bright Places", and it was really good that it got a movie, but the movie missed out on a lot of details from the book. I am curious about this story and will have to give it a try next time I am looking for a good read.
