Entry #10 Cheers to Summer

As the school year comes to an end, it's almost time for summer. It's the time that everyone has been looking forward to; no school, staying up late, make more money, or traveling out of town. Getting out of Glendale sounds like a great idea and if you don't know what to do then here are two places you can check out in Arizona.

If you're looking to get some sun while being in the water then this might be the place for you. Salt River Tubing is located in Mesa and just reopened this past weekend for the season. Since it is under new management, you can either purchase your tickets in person or book in advance at https://www.saltrivertubing.com/. Their goal is to reduce lines so people can have more time in the water. At the location, you can rent tubes to sit on while floating across the river. It's highly recommended that you bring sunscreen and water because safety is important. Also, they encourage having a plan before getting into the water. Elenee Dao wrote an article about the reopening of Salt River Tubing and she asked Sgt. Joaquin Enriquez in regards to a plan. Enriquez said "The plan would include your timing, how you're going to get here, how you're going to get home and then comes the essentials" (Dao).

If you prefer to go out of town to see more of nature and Arizona's beauty, I got something for you too. A lot of people forget that Arizona has one of the 7 natural wonders in the world. The Grand Canyon National Park is a great scenic place to visit. Along with seeing the canyon, there are other things to do there as well. The park includes three zones: the visitor center, market plaza, and the historic district. You can take a train to get around to different parts of the park. It can definitely take up your whole day if you make it count.

To summarize, Salt River Tubing and the Grand Canyon National Park are places you can visit in the summer. Both are time consuming but you'll leave with great memories from both locations. Obviously there are more things to do in Arizona but these are two you should check off your bucket list.

  1. Even though I've lived here my whole life, I've never been up to the Grand Canyon. Considering its only a 3 hour drive, I'm running out of excuses as the years go on. Hopefully someday soon I'll be able to get out there and take it all in. I hear the North Rim is absolutely staggering to witness in the winter when snow tops the canyon walls, complimenting the stratified rock layers.
